Thanks for posting. I had forgotten about Doonesbury--the NY Times does not carry comics. I remember reading Doonesbury as a high school student in Yuma, AZ and feeling the first stirrings that maybe there was a more sophisticated and interesting world beyond where I was currently trapped.
This particular story line just kills me on so many levels. Toggle is an Iraq war vet with a traumatic brain injury. He meets Alex (Mike's daughter) online and they develop this beautiful friendship. It's illuminating but not didactic. Romantic but not sappy. And very relevant. Just this week there's been a series on NPR about the military's failure to take care of vets w/TBIs. Anyhow, you can go to the Slate website to see Doonesbury every day--and you check out the archives to see the thread.
I've been following the stuff about TBI's on NPR this week. A new woman in our ward gave a testimony in RS on Sunday about her ten-year recovery from a TBI and it was harrowing. She talked about how isolated she had come. Heart-wrenching.
Never read Doonesbury. Might need to start.
btw, eliza yodeled like a pro at her concert last night. . . of course. . . .
